Finite Solutions, Inc. offers design, simulation and analysis services for metal castings on a consulting basis. We can recommend a process design for a casting, or analyze your design to solve problems or improve your process. We have helped many companies successfully design and improve their casting processes.

To perform an analysis on your casting, we require the following information:

• A CAD file of the casting geometry, preferably in STL format. If STL is not available, we can accept IGES, STEP, ParaSolid or other formats.
• If a CAD file is not available, then we can develop a 3D model of your casting from a drawing.
• If you have an existing or proposed gating/riser design, then we require either a CAD file or a sketch or drawing of the gating and risers.
• The alloy specification for the metal to be cast.
• Typical pouring temperature.
• Typical pouring time (if known).
• Type of mold material (and preheat temperature, if applicable).
• A description of any sleeves, chills or any other thermal aids to be used in the process.
• Any other process information which might affect the pouring, cooling and solidification of the casting.

What can we deliver?

• Files in PowerPoint, Word and AVI (video) format, showing filling, solidification and predicted defect formation in the casting.
• Our analysis and suggestions for improvements in the casting process.
